Senior Principal Engineer Quality Escalation
The Quality Escalation Senior Principal Engineer plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing critical quality issues that escalate to a taskforce or crisis level. This position involves identifying potential quality problems early, activating response teams at backend sites globally, and implementing mitigation strategies to minimize product quality impacts. The engineer works in close collaboration with Backend Quality Management and Customer Quality Interfaces to ensure timely resolution of issues, effective communication with stakeholders, and continuous improvements in quality management processes.
Job Description In your new role you will:
- Quickly detect potential quality concerns using backend leading indicators and escalate them to the appropriate taskforces.
- Lead the activation of crisis response plans and ensure quick and effective actions are taken to resolve critical quality issues.
- Drive in-depth investigations into the root causes of complex quality problems and implement solutions to resolve them.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated quality issues, maintaining clear and concise communication with stakeholders, including regional and customer quality interfaces.
- Ensure comprehensive lessons learned are captured and used to implement proactive quality improvement measures across global backend sites.
- Conduct on-site customer visits to further strengthen relationships and resolve any quality-related concerns.
- Act as a technical expert and adviser in crisis management, building a culture of escalation management competency across the Backend Quality organization.
- Lead cross-functional teams during crisis situations, while fostering the development of escalation management skills within the quality teams worldwide.
- Reports directly to the Backend Quality Management Head.
- Frequent travel is required to support global backend sites and customer engagements.
Your Profile You are best equipped for this task if you have:
- At least 15 years of relevant experience in semiconductor backend manufacturing or a related industry.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience managing critical quality situations, with a demonstrated ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems, automotive standards, and related methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on identifying solutions for complex quality issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Chinese or Japanese is a plus.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams, coordinate efforts, and build consensus during a crisis.
- A Black Belt Certification in Six Sigma or other relevant quality certifications is highly advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze complex data and diagnose root causes effectively.
- A proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential quality issues before they escalate.
- High-level customer-facing skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Deep knowledge of backend manufacturing processes and the associated quality management systems.
- A global mindset and the ability to manage and coordinate efforts across multiple international sites.
