Senior Engineer
Responsibilities
Develop, cost, configure, and implement manufacturing processes that improve efficiency, stabilize yields, and enhance Edmund Optics (EO) capabilities—from concept through to production.
Collaborate with Production, Quality Assurance, and QA teams to drive continuous quality improvement and effectively resolve both internal and external customer complaints.
Support the quotation process by evaluating manufacturability and estimating labor, machine time, yield, and tooling costs.
Lead First Article (FA) projects in coordination with Program Management, including process planning, tooling design, production troubleshooting, and post-mortem reviews.
Identify opportunities and lead Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives using tools such as DFMEA and PFMEA to reduce risk and advance manufacturing capabilities.
Provide technical direction to technicians on manufacturing processes, offer guidance, identify training needs, and give honest, constructive feedback to support skill development.
Define and oversee process monitoring plans to ensure operational consistency and efficiency.
Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, work instructions, process plans, and other solution-related materials.
Support process and document change management activities.
Work closely with Manufacturing Technology and R&D teams to transition new processes and technologies from Beta phase to full-scale production.
Facilitate the transfer of technical knowledge across departments and EO locations to ensure alignment and best practice sharing.
In a multi-project environment, maintain a strong focus on production targets while adhering strictly to safety and quality standards.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering or a relevant scientific discipline, with at least 5 years of industry experience.
Strong technical background in Optical Coatings, Optical Design, Optical Fabrication, Optical Physics, Opto-Mechanical principles, or other specialized areas in the optical industry.
Proficient in the application of Design of Experiments (DoE) and ANOVA statistical testing.
Familiar with ISO standards, SAP systems, and continuous improvement tools such as Lean methodologies.
Ability to interpret and apply optical and mechanical drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of leading and organizing cross-functional teams.
Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset for working in diverse, multidisciplinary environments.
High attention to detail with analytical problem-solving abilities.
Self-motivated, independent, and proactive in driving results.
