Principal Engineer- High Voltage Cables

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Technical Principal Engineer to lead and manage complex multi-disciplinary engineering projects with a focus on Energy Transmission and Generation initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in delivering engineering solutions across various disciplines with a strong understanding of High Voltage Underground & Subsea Cable Engineering, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and local regulations in Southeast Asia.

The position of Technical Principal Engineer provides expert technical and Project Management skills to generate and develop innovative, economical and practical engineering solutions and designs that will strengthen the business through opportunity development, project implementation and delivery, research and development. The role is responsible for applying advanced professional knowledge and judgement of complex engineering and to provide supervision, leadership, mentoring and coaching of other junior staff and team members.

Job Description

Lead and collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure quality and timely project deliverables.

Provide expert technical engineering solutions and advice ensuring that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMEC.

Manage opportunities and projects effectively to meet required standards and deadlines.

Contribute to the commercial success and business development of projects and the team.

Build SMECs reputation as a leading consultant with a strong reputation for innovation, technical excellence, quality and project delivery.

Job Specification

Bachelors Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems

Need to be professional registered (local or international certification)

Would be beneficial to have Project Management certification and experience

Would be beneficial to be a member of an international and/or local professional engineering society (e.g. CIGRE)

At least 10 years experience in High Voltage Underground & Subsea Cabling projects (e.g. in connection of offshore wind farms, interconnection projects, etc)

At least 5 years experience in managing multidisciplinary design teams and responsibility for detail design and construction

High proficiency in HV (including +400kV) Cable design including Thermal and Electrical requirements and studies, duct & trench design, layouts, installation, and geotechnical requirements
