Senior Backend Developer - Java

A high-growth international tech innovator is expanding its engineering team in Kuala Lumpur and looking for a Lead Backend Developer to help build and enhance enterprise-scale backend systems. This is a fully remote role within Malaysia, offering the chance to contribute to high-impact global projects while working with some of the best minds in backend architecture and analytics.

In this role, you will:

• Design, build, and optimize robust Java-based applications that work with large-scale data solutions such as Apache Phoenix and HBase.
• Develop efficient SQL procedures and backend logic to support analytics-driven operations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on the integration of streaming data technologies like Kafka.
• Own performance optimization tasks—profiling and tuning backend services to ensure best-in-class response times.
• Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle from requirement gathering to deployment and support.
• Ensure maintainable, well-documented, and high-quality code through peer reviews and robust testing practices.
• Utilize cloud-native tools to monitor and enhance system reliability and observability.

What Were Looking For:

• 5+ years of experience in backend software development , primarily using Java .
• Proven ability to architect and sustain scalable systems integrating diverse computing components.
• Strong hands-on experience in Linux environments and familiarity with system-level operations.
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, Git, or similar.
• A mindset that embraces optimization, clean architecture, and continuous improvement.

Bonus Skills (Highly Desirable):

• Familiarity with Hadoop, HBase, or related big data ecosystems.
• Exposure to Spring Framework, Kafka Streams, OpenAPI, or Golang-based microservices.
• Experience with containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• A self-starter who can take ownership but also thrives in collaborative environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working across cross-functional teams.
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
