Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced
Biologist/Chemist/Biochemist
to contribute to the optimization of our biogas production processes. This role involves analyzing biological and chemical processes within the plant, ensuring that the anaerobic digestion process is efficient, sustainable, and compliant with environmental standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of microbial activity, chemical reactions, and anaerobic digestion, helping to maximize gas yield while maintaining the health of the biological systems. You will collaborate with the operations team and provide scientific expertise to improve plant efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Biogas Process Analysis:
Analyze the biological and chemical aspects of anaerobic digestion, including microbial activity, pH levels, temperature, and gas composition. Provide insights into improving the efficiency of biogas production through optimization of these parameters.
Feedstock Characterization:
Assess the chemical composition of feedstock and digestate to ensure it is suitable for biogas production. Make recommendations for adjustments to feedstock input based on the quality and characteristics of materials.
Laboratory Testing & Sampling:
Perform regular sampling and laboratory tests to monitor biogas production, assess microbial health, and measure the efficiency of gas output. Use analytical tools to test for gas purity, nutrient content, and other key metrics.
Process Optimization:
Collaborate with the operations team to identify and implement improvements in the biological and chemical processes that drive biogas production. Recommend changes to operating conditions, feedstock input, or other factors to maximize gas yield and improve plant efficiency.
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
Investigate any biological or chemical issues impacting plant performance, such as poor microbial growth or gas quality problems. Propose solutions and adjustments to the process in collaboration with the Operations Engineer.
Research & Development:
Stay updated on the latest advancements in biogas production, microbiology, and bioengineering. Apply new research findings to improve plant performance and sustainability.
Data Collection & Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of biological and chemical testing results, process changes, and performance metrics. Prepare reports for management to inform decision-making and operational strategies.
Training & Support:
Provide training and guidance to plant staff on biological and chemical processes, ensuring a better understanding of the factors that influence gas production and plant efficiency.
Qualifications:
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Experience:
2-3 years of experience in a laboratory, industrial plant, or biogas facility, preferably with a focus on anaerobic digestion, microbial processes, or waste-to-energy technologies.
Technical Expertise:
Strong understanding of microbial activity, chemical reactions, and feedstock composition related to anaerobic digestion. Familiarity with biogas production processes is preferred.
Laboratory Skills:
Experience in conducting chemical and biological analyses, including gas chromatography, pH measurement, nutrient testing, and microbial health assessments.
Analytical Skills:
Ability to interpret complex biological and chemical data and translate findings into actionable recommendations for process improvements.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Proven ability to identify and troubleshoot biological or chemical issues in plant operations.
Environmental Knowledge:
Understanding of environmental regulations related to waste management, emissions control, and sustainable energy production.
Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills to present findings, recommendations, and reports to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Team Collaboration:
Ability to work closely with plant operations staff, maintenance teams, and management to support biogas production goals.
